Div 1 Warrior Women defeat Glenelg 15 - 9

16 Aug 2014 by Brett Forrest

The Div 1 Women are playing for a spot in the top 4. Today they took on Glenelg in a game where the winner will potentially claim 4th spot on the ladder and a birth in finals.

The Woodville Warriors had a very slow and ordinary start to the game. Glenelg put the first 3 goals on the scoreboard and the coach hit the panic button and called for a timeout. The timeout gave the team time to regroup and get the very next goal on the board. The first qtr ended with Glenelg in the lead 4 – 1. Looked like it was going to be a tough hard game for the Warriors.

The coach and captain Leah gave some game observations and Woodville hit back in the 2nd qtr with 4 unanswered goals. Leah, Bianca and Chloe dominated the midfield, Merlindie started to find the back of the net in her first game back in a while. Sarah Adams was on fire in the goals and hit some very good clears after a few issues with her stick in the 1st qtr. Half time saw Woodville take the lead 5 – 4.

The second half saw Woodville dominate. Rachel, Bianca and Chloe dominated the centre draws. Leah provided some excellent run through the midfield. Merlindie bagged 5 goals. Sarah was a wall in the cage. Our defence stood up and rebounded the ball back to attack as quick as Glenelg brought it down.

Although not their best game Woodville ran away winners 15 – 9 in front of four supporters, one of our biggest crowds for the year.
