DIV 1 FIGHT GLENELG TILL FINAL SIREN

DIV 1 GIRLS FIGHT TO FINAL SIREN

This was always going to be a very tough game of lacrosse against a strong Glenelg team who currently sit on top of the ladder.  Woodville went down to Glenelg 16 – 8 in a tough battle, at no time did Glenelg look comfortable with their lead as Woodville continued to put shots on the goalie.  Woodville has some issues early in the game with trying to rush the ball in every time, nothing that surly can’t be fixed at training this week.

In the Coach’s interview after the game Brett was quite happy with the girls game and fight to win right to end.  He said they are great team to coach and all players listen and willing to learn, at no stage during the game did the girls give up, and he liked that.  The 2nd quarter saw Glenelg and Woodville tie, which was a fantastic effort by the girls. Our team has come along after losing a number of key players from last year. It is always going to be hard when you lose quality players like Hayley Blanch, Carly Daly, Beth Caldwell, Tara Parker, Mel Prior & Morgan Inglis from the previous season.  This has given the opportunity for other girls to stand up this year and lead the girls towards wins. Bianca Parker and Chloe Scott are becoming an unstoppable pair this year in the centre and rumour has it the League coach is wanting them both at pre-season training next year and pushing for a spot in league.

Game Highlights

·         It was great to see so many Warrior supporters on the sideline on Saturday.  Our previous crowd attendance record of 4 was smashed on Saturday by 20.

·         Rachael Dodd scored and awesome shovel shot goal.

·         Colleen Downey-Magor got the game going early with and excellent shot on goal

·         Chloe, Bianca and Leah causing trouble for Glenelg through the middle.

·         It was great to see Bianca remain calm after a few bad calls by the lady in black and white stripes

·         Coach Moe may have learnt a little bit too much off Coach Youngy getting into some trouble with the umpires.

·         Sarah Adams, what can you say. #Champion, #NeverGiveUp, #Wall, #Legend, #TeamPlayer, #RoleModel

·         The juniors didn’t get much of a run but when they did Hailey and Amber showed their run and ground ball pick ups.

·         Some excellent talk and leadership from our Captains Leah and Hannah.

Next week is the final round before the finals.  The Div 1 girls have a good chance of snatching 4th spot on the ladder and play in the finals.  A win over Adelaide UNI will guarantee us a spot in the finals, if not we will be relying on Glenelg 1 to defeat Glenelg 2.
